8 Reasons why Automation will lead to more jobs and Higher Pay

My aunt runs a coaching centre, empowering elders and tech- novice individuals with the knowledge and skills to use mobile and digital applications. These were physical classroom sessions conducted in a closed environment which obviously needed transformation as the world shifted to digital mediums for communication and learning post COVID-19. The first challenge for her was to enable the learners to use technology so that they may learn technology through that technology. Before you begin thinking this is a Nolan film(within a film), I’ll get to the point. Moving to digital modes for learning led to an added team member for her. One who’d manage the digital platform while she could focus on teaching. The story of automation will possibly follow the story of my aunt’s (online) coaching spa...

Decoding Blended Learning- A win-win for All?

Schools and colleges will reopen across India after August 2020, most probably after August 15, according to Union HRD Minister Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal. While the HRD ministry is preparing guidelines for reopening of educational institutes, only 11% of parents are in support of educational institutes starting as per the original calendar according to a country wide survey of 18,000 parents by LocalCircles, a community social media platform. The country is mulling over a phased exit from the lockdown, but a majority of parents across 224 districts prefer continuation of virtual classes, as there are reports of children getting infection after schools reopened in some countries. Circumstances dictate that virtual is here to stay and a new hybrid model of learning is required. This hybrid mo...

TEACHING LEARNING AND ASSESSMENTS IN THE DIGITAL AGE

Credible online assessments are the key to employability. Not so long ago, I remember seeing this social media post about the value of real friends versus the online ones. Today as #SocialDistancing becomes the norm, the value we place on the medium of social connect has undergone a massive change. Globally, over 1.2 billion students are out of the classroom. The collective disruption we are now witnessing in our schools, work, and play, along with a heightened awareness of what it means to value relationships, is adding fuel towards sparking an Online Education movement.  While enough and more has been written about online learning, we also need to focus on online assessments.  With all major high stakes exams getting disrupted – CBSE, JEE, NEET etc, the need to have credible on...

How Automation will impact the way we work?

I happened to interview IAS officer Aditya Ranjan, who turned his passion for Robotics into reality by creating the COVID Cobot in his district Chaibasa to carry out food and medicine delivery services to COVID suspected or positive patients. It amazed me to see the work he did and I was intrigued to learn more. “The bot performs basic delivery services with ease,” he said thereby reducing risk of constantly coming in human contact with other members. “What is it that the bot cannot do then?” I enquired. “Well it cannot be empathetic. It cannot think of the next best possible creative solution. It cannot perform critical thinking activities. But it helps me and my team members perform these activities instead,” he gushed.     According to the Pew Research Center Survey on ‘Automa...
