Digital Twin is ripe as an indispensable opportunity for technology industry in 2024 to inventions, productization and exploring new markets.

Digital Twin for vertical applications has been predicted to be the 6th most successful technology in 2024 accounted by 44 global technology leaders. The technology has been marked 7th rank for maturity and 8th for market adoption in 2024. Digital twin technology has a lower commercial adoption horizon of 3.29 years than Next Generation AI, Digital Healthcare etc. as predicted by IEEE, Computer Society in its technology prediction report 2024.

Uncertain technology landscape across industries makes it imperative to do what-if-scenario analysis for any risk aversion. Digital twin technology will advance state of the art predictions, what-if-analysis, and oversight in industries such as data centers, medicine, geo physical hazards, manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation.

Enablers:

Yotta-D1, CtrlS are frontrunners in hyperscale computing in India. Other companies such as Sify, Atlassian, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are announcing further investments. This will help scaling digital twin technology in India.

Long range, low cost, and low power wireless technologies such as Sigfox and LoRa may further enable sustainable scaling of digital twin technologies.

Other enablers include Commoditization of sensor equipment, IoT: Connected assets, extended network, Remote control, Blockchain, Cyber-Physical Systems etc.

Opportunity:

Digital twin serves immense possibilities for businesses because of its dynamic nature to mirror the exact state of physical system. DT is an inspiring opportunity to be harnessed for smart digital transformation along with achieving aggressive sustainability goals at the same time. India has colossal opportunities in various sectors.

Infrastructure: Survey of India has aimed to create Digital Twin of Major Urban cities & towns of India by 2030. It has signed a pact with Genesys International to mirror physical assets with precise details. They have already built digital twin of "Ayodhya", the Dharavi slum clusters of Mumbai, Kochi, and Kanpur.

Agriculture: India can leverage Digital twins’ technology to revolutionize agriculture by capturing real-time data on environmental and operational factors, offering real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and decision support to optimize animal health, welfare, and production efficiency, thereby playing a crucial role in enhancing overall farm management and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Digital Twin capabilities of creating virtual replica of crucial physical assets, covering pipelines, gathering systems, pipelines, heat exchange, turbines, pump, and compressors. It is greatly used in the energy sectors. The integration of Digital twin in Rajasthan and Gujarat has successfully increased the volume of gas directed to Recycle Gas Compressors (RGCs) instead of being flared, resulting in a more sustainable approach.

As India ascends on global stage, application of digital twin will drive the triple bottom line, promoting the well-being of people, preserving the planet, and embracing a shared sense of purpose in the pursuit of sustainable and secure energy solutions.
