Hi Hitesh – Thanks for your mail. I will certainly get in touch with you once we begin work on the report. In the meanwhile, can you please share your detailed coordinates – my email id is diksha@nasscom.in. Thanks

IoT report-Participation

|

Hi – NASSCOM Research team is working on a report on IoT. This would be released during ER&D Summit 2016 in October. If any of you is interested in participating, please let me know.

The 2016 Hannover Messe: What’s new for the Industrial IoT?

|

A few hours ago German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Barack Obama formally opened the 2016 Hannover Messe, or Hannover Fair. Hannover Messe is a huge event with almost 200,000 visitors, and this year the USA is participating as the partner country. An annual event so large is not concerned with only one topic. The major Hannover exhibits are classified under the headings of Industrial Automation, Digital Factory, Energy, Industrial Supply, and Research & Technology. These topical headings are very aligned with the IIoT/Industrie4.0 vision.  While the Hannover Messe is multi-faceted there will be a lot of discussion by participants this year of their deliverables for the IIoT. The exhibition activity and non-stop meetings will really pick up today as the exhibit itself opens...

Smart Connected Products Are at the Heart of IIoT and the Digital Transformation

As is usually the case, some very interesting, and sometimes revealing points come out of the sessions at the ARC Forum. Dr. Uday Despande, Global Director of Electrical Design Systems for Ingersoll Rand made a compelling case for how a new generation of smart, intelligent products are at the core of smart ecosystems, factories, and drives the functionality of IIoT itself. The primary theme of Dr. Despande’s presentation was that smart connected industrial systems had to be based on core elements of connected intelligent products and components.  He also showed that building a smart connected ecosystem of products had to involve a distinct value proposition where connecting things, components, edge devices, edge sensors, and edge computing provides enhanced services in the form o...

Changing Landscapes of IoT

The Internet of Things is evolving rapidly. From connected machines to living in the data-driven world and preparing for challenges, IoT is changing the conventional way of doing business. Here are some reasons to why IoT has become a large opportunity: 1. Low Cost Devices/Sensors & High Battery Life: Most of the IoT systems are dependent on sensors or interconnected devices to transmit the data in almost real time. The availability of such sensors and a connected gateway has created the possibility to generate more device data than any time in the past. 2. M2M & Beyond: M2M was commenced with the intention of devices talking to each other and taking decisions. The whole aspect of mobility and consumerization created a need for combining this Machine Data, with Information T...

The Evolution of the IIoT Edge

The edge is the most critical and perhaps the most difficult piece in the IIoT puzzle. It is not one single thing, because application requirements vary so widely. Take just one application requirement – the frequency of data update – and the needs range all over the map. A vendor-managed inventory application may work very well with just a single data point every few days. Analytical models can estimate inventories, so the sensor data is needed just to correct model error and to keep these errors from accumulating. On the other hand, data can be very dynamic in applications like field service management. A critical customer event can re-order service priorities instantly, and so data about the state of the service assets (machines, tools, and people) need to be updated very often.  In...

Tips Before Making Investments in IoT

As we know, IoT is all about gathering information, processing, applying analytics on cloud platform and creating a value out of it. It becomes necessary for any company identifying several transactions that IoT creates from the physical to virtual world right before investing plans, typically when companies don’t have any background about all the technologies involved in deploying end-to-end IoT solutions. Today, we will look at key areas where a company should specifically take notice while trying to invest in IoT enablement. Early involvement of an IoT Service Provider Early involvement of an IoT service provider can help ascertain the value which IoT can bring to an organization.  IoT Service providers can assess the current scenario and help any company gain insight on wh...
