1. Tell us about your product/solution in brief.

 

SmartFarm is a robust and flexible farm management solution which enables complete digitization of farms, empowers data-driven decision-making, and provides complete visibility of people, processes and performance on the field. It ensures management of standard package of practices, adherence to compliance and certification, pest and crop health management.

 

2. Mention the geographic area where your solution is implemented and give us details of the intervention.

 

Large-scale projects are being successfully implemented in four districts of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh to test the effectiveness of our solution to generate climate resilient solutions for farming needs. We are working with 500 field agents across 90,000 plots.

 

CropIn has provided the following solutions:

  • Climate smart advisory develops season-wise crop configurations for all the major crops
  • Seven-day weather forecasts derived from the best available weather observation systems and forecast models
  • Weather-based advisory to the farmers in the local language
  • Web and mobile-based advisory dashboards to enable the Village Resource Professionals get important insights
  • Technical inputs in real time from agriculture experts in state research institutions

 

3. What was the objective of the project and how much of it was achieved?

Project 1: SLACC

 

The Sustainable Livelihoods and Adaptation to Climate Change (SLACC) Project for India is in association with the Government of India’s National Rural Livelihoods Project (NRLP) and is supported by World Bank. This public-private partnership project brought CropIn on-board as the preferred partner for bringing technology for climate resilience to the doorsteps of Indian farmers. The project aims to empower farmers to adopt climate resilient practices and adapt to the climatic changes and unpredictability.

 

Developing resilience in agriculture to regular weather shocks in the short-term and to climate change in the medium- to long-term is one of the biggest challenges facing Indian farmers today. Large-scale pilots are being implemented in four districts of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh to test the effectiveness of digital apps to generate climate resilient solutions for farming needs. This was made possible through a public-private partnership between the State Rural Livelihood Missions in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh with CropIn Technology. CropIn has developed digital applications to advise farmers on ways to achieve optimal harvests, depending on weather conditions, soil and other indicators.

 

CropIn has also developed a climate smart advisory module that develops season-wise crop configurations for all the major crops and provides weather-based advisory to SLACC farmers in the local Hindi language on predictive and curative measures promoting sustainable agriculture practices. Web and mobile-based advisory dashboards have been developed to enable the Village Resource Professionals get important insights around sowing, soil health, seed treatment, recommendation for harvesting fertilizer, and seven-day weather forecasts derived from the best available weather observations systems and forecast models. This data is then downscaled at the farm plot level to help smallholder farmers make effective decisions for their crops. The module also considers technical inputs in real time from agriculture experts in state research institutions and farm alerts from village resource professionals to develop these practical agro-advisories.

 

In the first year of operation itself, the project successfully impacted 3500 farmers in Mandla & Sheopur district of MP across 7 kinds of crops, generating a total of 22 crop advisories. Agricultural technology was successfully introduced and implemented in these districts creating sustainable livelihood for the rural farming community.

 

4. Give details of the cost of your solution and scope of scalability

Our pricing model is either per acre or per user. Typically, it costs USD 800-1000 per license subjective to the farm size.

CropIn has digitized 3.1 million acres and worked with 1.6 million farmers globally. Our solutions can be scaled up for large scale agribusinesses to incorporate all their farmers and field staff as our solutions are crop and location agnostic.

We have a strategic partnership with one of the world’s largest agriculture equipment player to penetrate the paddy market in SE Asia as the largest rice millers in the region are customers of our partner. While our partner is an expert on the processing and equipment side, CropIn provides the 'software' edge for their customers look at fundamentally getting closer to the farmers and helping them improve the quality of the inputs that go into their machines.
