On 19th September 2016, US Department of Transportation released the Federal Automated Vehicles Policy. https://www.transportation.gov/AV/federal-automated-vehicles-policy-september-2016. This policy is forward looking and encourages the use of automated vehicles with the hope of higher safety and reduced road accident deaths. This development is expected to give a fillip to tech companies and automobile manufactures to accelerate their efforts towards highly automated vehicles and self driving cars. Sebastian Thrun who is considered as the father of the self driving car says that there is a dire shortage of skills in this area and he estimates the current value of talent in this field at $10 million per person. http://www.recode.net/2016/9/17/12943214/sebastian-thrun-self-driving-talent-pool. Several startups in this space in Israel have been acquired in recent times. http://venturebeat.com/2016/12/10/israeli-startups-deliver-much-needed-tech-for-self-driving-cars/. Given our strength in IT this should be an opportunity for startups in India too.
