During the Covid-19 pandemic, cloud computing became all-pervasive, as work went virtual and businesses adapted by focusing on the delivery of digital services. It is highly likely that this growth will continue in 2022.

While augmenting the abilities of a remote workforce will be a key driver of cloud advancement, we will also witness innovation in cloud and data center infrastructure.

The rise of cloud gaming, VR, and more :

According to predictions from Gartner, global spending on cloud services is expected to reach over $482 billion in 2022, up from $313 billion in 2020.

New or upcoming high-speed networks like 5G not only enable more data to be streamed from the cloud: it also means that new types of data can be streamed. This trend is evident in the rapid growth of cloud computing platforms which will see increasing levels of investment in 2022.

We will also see the arrival of cloud virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) which should lead to smaller and cheaper headsets. Cloud technology essentially makes every other technology lighter, faster, and more accessible from a customer point of view, and this fact will be a key driver in the migration of more services to cloud platforms.

Hybrid cloud computing :

When businesses started migrating to the cloud, they initially had two options: use easily accessible public cloud solutions or more customized and flexible private cloud solutions.

Private cloud empowers an organization with its own cloud and ensures that data doesn’t have to leave its premises. This is extremely crucial for regulatory and security reasons.

Mission-critical data can be kept on private servers, where access can be monitored and processed using proprietary applications.

Having experienced the benefits of the cloud, companies today are leveraging multiple use cases and finding themselves in a multi-cloud environment. This means that they are using a number of services from several different suppliers.

A hybrid cloud approach can reduce the complexity of this transition, owing to its special emphasis on streamlining the user experience and keeping the backend stack invisible.

AI meets cloud computing :

Cloud computing plays a vital role in the delivery of AI services. Machine learning platforms require huge processing power and data bandwidth for training and processing data. Cloud data centers not only offer this capability but also make this data available to everyone.

Powerful AI trends will emerge in the coming years, including, generative machine learning (which can create art and train other AIs), language modeling (increase the accuracy with which machines can understand human languages), and low code AI platforms (create smart programs using different pre-made modules, and feeding them with our own domain-specific data).

Cloud computing will prove instrumental in providing these services to users, as well as developing the infrastructure needed to deliver them.
