Across the world, organisations have steadily and speedily adopted cloud as it provides rapid scalability, flexibility, and a platform for rapid experimentation and innovation. Cloud continues to be the foundational pillar for innovation and collaboration. Cloud services are expected to accelerate R&D in India as more organizations leverage cloud-based data platforms for collaborative research. This is also true for engineering organizations who are rapidly adopting cloud post pandemic.

However, many ecosystem players face certain talent related roadblocks when it comes to cloud adoption and some steps have also been taken to mitigate them.

  • Challenge 1 - Lack of digital and domain training - Rising focus on digital transformation has increased the need for technology skills. There exist gaps between the university curriculum and what the industry needs in terms of combining technology and domain training.
    • Solution - To combat this, service providers have entered into tie-ups and partnerships with universities to impart cloud and tech training to university graduates and help enterprises access the requisite converged skillsets.

  • Challenge 2 – Inadequate hands-on experience - We have witnessed widespread convergence of emerging technologies in the cloud, which has created a demand for digital talent, increasing the need for hands-on on—the-job training.
    • Solution – To solve this challenge, service providers are upskilling their employees with certifications, boot camps, and hands-on assessments and providing internship opportunities to fresh talent. In addition, enterprises can also leverage the expertise of these FTEs for cloud adoption and make them cloud evangelists within their organisations.

  • Challenge 3 - Lack of security skills - About 95% of the workloads hosted on the cloud are vulnerable to security risks. However, with the growth of advanced security measures, this risk continues to minimize. Enterprises need to minimize the cloud security skills gap by training their professionals on advanced security skills.
    • Solution – To alleviate this, service providers must train the workforce in specialized skills such as security standardization, SASE platforms, identity management, and data encryption and help enterprises in tackling cybersecurity challenges.

While challenges exist, but ecosystem players must ensure to address these challenges by taking the necessary steps.
