A Global Rush of Net-Zero Transitions - The Future Is Now

We are on the verge of an engineering revolution that could change the way we live forever. There will be a huge economic impact as we move towards a world powered by renewables. But it is not just about economics - it is also about the environment. Businesses are now playing an essential role in combating climate change, aided by a growing customer and investor focus on sustainability. Their environmental footprints are becoming more transparent, and greener enterprises are earning greater valuations.

Unfortunately, this was not always the case; between 1970 and 2011, industrial activity and the use of fossil fuels were responsible for 78% of the growth in greenhouse gas emissions. This is prompting calls for Businesses to re-energize their environmental commitments as the global carbon footprint expands at an alarming rate while carbon emissions continue to fall. Designing and manufacturing net zero products is the key to achieving a society with zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Net-Zero Products: What are they?

To reach net zero, industrial emissions must be balanced with carbon sinks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero. Net Zero Products are products and services designed to achieve this aim. Among these are renewable energy systems, green mobility, energy-efficient goods and services, and strategic carbon advisory services. Because greenhouse gases are the primary source of global warming, a rise in their emissions might lead to catastrophic climate change for the whole globe. At the organizational level, carbon neutrality can be achieved by an efficient carbon footprint assessment and carbon reduction actions implemented throughout the product lifecycle.

Towards achieving carbon-free goals on a global scale

Nearly 76% of worldwide emissions come from 70 nations, including China, the United States, and the European Union. In the Race to Zero, more than 1,200 businesses and over 1,000 communities have set science-based net zero goals.

The United Kingdom became the first large economy to campaign for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 in 2015. This followed the Paris Agreement, a legally enforceable international convention on climate change mitigation, adaptation, and funding. Denmark, France, Hungary, Sweden, and New Zealand have all enacted Net Zero legislation as of January 2021. Net Zero products serve a significant role in managing and decreasing carbon emissions, and they can play a substantial role in this direction. China's President, Xi Jinping, declared in 2020 that the country would endeavor to achieve net carbon neutrality by 2060. While such a step would require a significant revamp of the country's coal-fired economy, the government appears to be preparing for the transition's problems.

Scaling to new heights with value engineering techniques

A net zero future requires capitalizing on new possibilities while conquering existing industrial structures and practices. It is vital to switch to renewable energy sources for energy production in this process since it instantly reduces carbon emissions. The most apparent way for businesses to express their commitment to a more sustainable future is through Net Zero products. Achieving Net Zero status will promote efficient water and waste management as well as spur the development of green buildings and transportation (such as the switch to electric vehicles). To achieve net zero goals, value engineering techniques can be applied to optimize lightweight, recyclable, and reusable objects to promote design efficiency.

The pathway leading to a net zero future

The majority of CO2 emission reductions in the net zero pathway through 2030 come from readily available technology. The route to net-zero emissions is narrow, and progress will need the rapid and massive deployment of every available clean and efficient energy technology. Many organizations have already put their best foot forward in addressing the problems of guaranteeing a sustainable future by harnessing existing engineering skills, worldwide experience, and resources. By acting now, attaining Net Zero by 2050 will be a very feasible goal. It will help us define and protect the future of our children.
