On 9th January 2018, UK PM Theresa May conducted a reshuffle of her cabinet. Our take – a positive for NASSCOM and the Indian IT industry, as Matt Hancock, the new Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is a believer in the technology sectors and the multi-faceted contributions of skilled immigrants to the UK economy. NASSCOM has met him previously, and it will be useful to have a voice in the UK Cabinet vouching for flexible immigration policies to ensure skilled talent supply to the sector. Margot James, the new Digital Minister, is also a supporter of skilled immigration; having advocated for it previously. Further, Caroline Noakes, the new Immigration Minister, will now be a Cabinet attendee as part of her new role, highlighting the ongoing significance of immigration policy for Theresa May’s Government.

We are monitoring the developments closely, and will keep you posted on related developments. Attached a summary of the key Cabinet changes, and implications for the Indian IT industry. Please feel free to reach out should you have any questions.
