How can you navigate your business through today’s relentless disruption and tomorrow’s uncertainty? NASSCOM along with Esri India organized a webinar ‘Geo-enabled Applications – A Market Growth Opportunity for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs)’. The webinar focused on how ISVs can integrate GIS technology with their core applications to meet customer expectations.

In a hyper-connected world where customer expectations and behaviors change rapidly, it is extremely important to elevate consumer experience with deployable solutions backed by the latest technology that accelerates transformation. Today, Geographic Information technology (GIS) has gained recognition as one of the most enabling technologies. Agendra Kumar, President, Esri India provided his viewpoints on the importance of location as the common point for businesses to derive value and insights to solve some of the complex challenges and further make informed decisions. As businesses aim to grow by scaling their IT Infrastructure, leveraging technologies such as Big Data, IoT, Drones, satellite data, AI, ML, etc. and  adding location component  empowers them with geo-enabled business applications that unleashes business insights and enables higher business growth.

To expand market reach and match with the ever-changing consumer expectations, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) must look at GIS as an enabling technology. From leveraging GIS into business applications perspective, Meka Kiran Kumar, National Manager – ISV and Startups, Esri India explained the importance of embedding and extending GIS capabilities across desktop, web, and mobile applications and how it creates an opportunity for companies to develop their industry-focused solutions. Integration GIS with business applications help businesses become more competitive, acquire new customers, deliver value, and build long-term relationships.

Bhaskar Pilla, Founder, Saartha Labs provided practical viewpoints into the challenges and constraints faced by enterprises and solution as GIS integrated enterprise applications. An enterprise involves people from different business functions using their processes without cross-collaboration. Adding location component in enterprise ensures the business works towards a single goal of efficiency and meeting customer satisfaction. GIS plays a significant role – it offers better visibility on business operations referring to updates concerning every department, asset maintenance, work orders, scheduling jobs, monitoring, and analyzing asset operations on maps.

Raj Mella, Managing Director, Satra Services and Solutions Pvt. Ltd. explained the role of GIS in the improvement of public services. He delved into understanding the geographical context of assets wherein GIS is embedded in the software to address these challenges. The GIS integration provides convenient base maps for decision making, advanced GIS tools with purpose-built development, customized dynamic segmentation, and thematic maps, among others.

Pushpendra Johari, Senior Vice President, RMSI shed some light on the application of GIS to assess disaster impact and develop strategies. He explained the risks associated with man-made and natural hazards and the impact of climate change on water resources, agriculture, etc. GIS is utilized to develop flood forecast platform; emergency management decision support system; emergency response dashboards, and other risk assessment maps that provide real-time information, forecasts, early warnings, and advisories about disasters.

Almost all data generated today has a geographical reference. Empowering businesses to make strategic decisions and strategies through geospatial insight opens a world of opportunities. GIS can help ISVs connect with those opportunities through a geo-enabled solution that transforms businesses.
