In Healthcare Industry, 5G is expected to help catalyzing a new connected Healthcare ecosystem that will be predictive, preventative, personalized & participatory. Few use cases are discussed below:

Top 5G Use Cases in Healthcare Industry

  • Connected Healthcare:

  1. Remote Patient Monitoring: Smart wearables with sensors will constantly track patient’s vitals, detect faults in medical devices and relay this information to a cloud platform monitored by doctors to prevent adverse health issues.

  2. Telemedicine: Online consultations and digital prescriptions equipped by 5G will bridge the doctor patient gap and provide secure, quick and enhanced healthcare in rural areas.

  • Smart Hospitals:

  1. Digitalization and centralization of medical records will increase access and security thereby expediting diagnosis and treatment of patients.

  2. Streamlined Processes: IoT helps in crisis management, provides info on availability of hospital beds and increases operational efficiency.

  • Healthcare Automation:

  1. Remotely operated robotic surgeries, AR/VR assisted medical procedures, robotic aids capable of performing CT scans and remote diagnosis. XR tools will enable immersive visualization and medical training such as using haptic gloves with sensors to learn complex procedures online.

  2. Drone enabled medical service delivery: 5G enabled drones can increase speed of delivery of medicines/ vaccines, expedite collection of medical samples.

Over the coming years, 5G will have a considerable impact on the healthcare system across the country and, in the way medical professionals operate in critical situations. 5G will enhance healthcare systems, processes, and procedures by improving efficiency. It will provide essential levels of connectivity to create a new health ecosystem, one that will be able to meet patient and provider needs accurately, efficiently, conveniently, and cost-effectively.
