Design thinking is a process that involves five significant steps - empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test.

The first step i.e. empathize is a discovery phase in which you gain insights into user needs through field study. Then you empathize with the users by understanding their work function, expectations, emotions and pain areas.

In the second step i.e. define, you combine all the data gathered in the first step, analyze the observations and then synthesize them to define core problem areas.

In the third step i.e. ideate, you can find alternative solution ideas to the problem, then investigate and test your ideas to find the best solution.

In the fourth step i.e. prototype, you create conceptual prototypes so that you can investigate possible solutions.

In the fifth step i.e. test, you would test the prototypes and see how well they solve the problems. With this process, you can go back to previous stages, revise the information and correct the solution to get the best output. By the end of this phase, you would understand the user feelings, behavior and reactions to the end product.
