Why India/Bangalore?

Please allow me to share my views about the time when I was transferred to Bangalore back in 2014.

What I shared with my people then was to have a  Dual Focus, To Bangalore, and From Bangalore.

“To Bangalore” means, most of the big names from the western countries have been shifting or off-shoring their resources or operations to cost-efficient counties like India or China. I believe this is still our baseline as long as India remains at a certain level of cost advantage, and we will continue to provide that value to the other part of the globe from the cost optimization perspective.

However, I don’t think that is enough, I believe we should provide much more strategic and innovative values “From Bangalore.”

It is like having all the right ingredients to put together a beautiful and tasty dish but also presenting it in such a way that it turns into an Insta-worthy story. India has been considered a low-cost centre but it is also the global talent hub for many technical and niche skills.

In general, there are tons of complicated and tough requirements or conditions that are common at a certain level in emerging country markets like China, Brazil, Africa or India.

  • Huge size/volume
  • Much complexity
  • Poor infrastructure
  • Low cost

However, In India, I would say,  has good and strong “enablers” which are not available in other emerging countries.

  • Advanced IT
  • Competent and Cost-Effective talent
  • Global business exposure
  • Right Eco-system

So, that’s why I believe, if something works in India, why NOT work in other countries?

Digital Transformation

One of the strategic and innovative values is “Digital Transformation”.

My interpretation of Digital Transformation is,

  • Digital -> Connected
  • Transformation -> Intelligence

Digitalization makes everything connected; Devices, Contents, Services, Companies and Organizations, but most important and critical part is connected with Human Being, ie. People/Customers/Users.

The status that everything is Connected is just a baseline and is not good enough to make transformation. Unless “Intelligence” is provided, you cannot make things Transformed. Then, what can make things Intelligent? Apparently, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning for backend, and Auto Recognition or Natural Language Handling for frontend, if we talk about Connected with Human Being.

Then, What can make all things happen, Connected and Intelligence?  That’s all IT and Software. Again, India is way advanced in those domains.

New GCC From India

Having said above, GCC here in India should not be just a branch from the global perspective, but GCC should lead and drive more from India for this whole new world. So, instead of simply saying GCC, Global Capability Centre, I do want to add one more “C” to GCC, then newly called “Global_Core Capability Centre”.

Way to go, everybody, and let’s work further and collaborate more closely to make it happen.
