ER&D firms today are tackling an unprecedented challenge to hire and develop fresh talent. Problem lies not only in the unavailability of job-ready skill sets but also in stiff competition from the other sectors. Students in core disciplines are unaware of the fast-evolving career options in ER&D and are migrating to jobs in other areas.

A partnership model which involves Corporates, Industry bodies, and new-age skilling platforms can come together and adopt a three-pronged approach to solve these issues.

  1. Drive awareness & engagement among student fraternity
    • Engagement initiatives like Masterclasses, Hackathons, Career Fairs, etc.
    • Availability of bite-sized content on fundamentals and awareness regarding career opportunities
  2. Augment the academic curriculum with industry-focused content
    • Curriculum design based on industry feedback
    • Train-the-trainer programs for faculty development
  3. Scalable model to deliver a sustainable talent pipeline
    • Bootcamp programs to onboard and train students at scale
    • Corporate participation to recruit the trained talent

This requires a robust framework to introduce various campus engagement and skill-development programs.

  • NASSCOM and other industry bodies can leverage their network to onboard academic and corporate partners and ensure maximum coverage
  • Corporate partners can provide critical inputs to design these programs and ensure credibility through their participation and sponsorship.
  • Skilling Platforms can bring in a fresh approach to design and execute these programs at scale.

India’s ER&D engine needs talent as fuel to enter the next stage of the growth journey. This collaborative approach, where every participant in the ecosystem brings their best to develop a sustainable talent pipeline, is the way to go.
