The massive growth of technology increased the demand for data in businesses. The pivot role played by data accelerating various business processes necessitates enhancements in data storage capabilities. Every developer needs to consider data persistence in applications for a seamless end-user experience. To industrialize and automate business practices, data need to be stored appropriately and sustainably.

Microstream is an innovative technology that maintains data persistence. MicroStream framework with its superior performance and in-memory persistence competencies can provide ultra-fast applications. Read the blog to know how MicroStream is improving the potential of data persistence.

MicroStream and its Significance

Unlike conventional persistence methods, MicroStream eliminates the need for a mapper to store data in memory. The primary goal of the MicroStream framework is to enhance database development in the Java environment. MicroStream becomes the most suitable technique to store and retrieve complex Java objects.

This open-source persistence layer for Java Virtual Machine (JVM) can be used in diverse environments such as cloud-native microservices, serverless systems, IoT applications, and conventional monolithic applications. The figure below shows the basic architecture for MicroStream.

Fig.1. MicroStream Architecture

MicroStream framework, stores data transactions in Native-Binary format. Storage Manager maintains Object Graph (primary data). The object model comprising the data is retrieved using MicroStream APIs. In short, MicroStream outstands the conventional persistence methods with its key features such as:

  • Ultra-fast in-memory storage (Random Access Memory /RAM) in binary format.
  • High scalability, Efficiency, and Cost-Effectiveness - facilitates continuous storage of Java objects (any size and complexity) in the cloud

Do you Know?

The primary version of MicroStream was available in 2019. MicroStream has since been embraced by several companies, including Oracle, Helidon, and Micronaut. MicroStream is also utilized in a variety of open-source projects, such as Quarkus and MicroProfile.

In Brief

The cutting-edge technology MicroStream executes high-performance and ultra-fast applications with Java facilitating seamless user experience. The key features of MicroStream such as better speed, reliability, scalability, and efficiency make it a dominant solution for advanced application development. The integration of this technology with various databases can benefit enterprises in numerous industries.
