Nasscom – Zinnov India GCC Trends Half Yearly Analysis

India continues to be the destination of choice to set up new Global Capability Centres (GCCs). As of June 2023, India hosts a thriving ecosystem of 1580+ GCCs, collectively housing a remarkable pool of 1.66 Mn+ talented professionals. This remarkable growth underscores India’s position as a prime destination for fostering global business operations and innovation. This H1 update of the nasscom-Zinnov India GCC trends takes stock of the happenings in the first half-year of 2023, and focuses on Automotive and Aerospace & Defense verticals. In the previous 4 editions, we analyzed Retail, BFSI, Healthcare, Telecom & Networking respectively. With the help of case studies of established, mature GCCs in the Automotive and Aerospace & Defense verticals, this edition of the report underlines the fact that India's mature ecosystem is much coveted, and that GCCs have made themselves indispensable parts of HQ.

Key Findings

 

  1. New GCCs set up

A total of 18 GCCs were established in India during H1CY2023, with 9 set up during Q1 CY2023 and the remaining 9 in the second quarter.

  1. Nasscom-Zinnov GCC Intensity Index

The nasscom-Zinnov GCC Intensity Index rating is “Medium” for Q1CY2023 basis multiple parameters such as such as no. of new GCCs, expansion of existing GCCs, industry verticals, functions, tiers, locations, HQ location, work profile, etc. The same Intensity Index rating is “High” for Q2CY2023 basis multiple parameters such as such as no. of new GCCs, expansion of existing GCCs, industry verticals, functions, tiers, locations, HQ location, work profile, etc.

  1. Functional areas

Approximately 83% of the new GCCs established in India have all three functional areas - namely ER&D, IT, and BPM, in H1CY2023

  1. Vertical deep dive

In H1CY2023, approximately 44% of the new GCCs established in India were from the Software & Internet vertical; followed by 11% each from BFSI, Chemicals and Materials, and Retail verticals.

  1. Focus areas

Data Science, Data & Analytics, Digital Innovation, Web Applications, Platform Engineering, Automation, and Software Development are some of the major focus areas for the new GCCs as well as the new centers for existing GCCs in H1CY2023
