Emerging Technology related considerations for GCCs

Tech adoption continues to be at the forefront of the GCC model, emerging as the driver for innovation and value creation. GCCs have successfully adapted to changes in technologies over the years and have evolved from conventional centres to transformation centres. Especially with the advent of Gen AI, ML, Blockchain and other technologies, agility of a GCC towards tech adoption remains a key factor for their growth.

GCCs are continuously leveraging technology to redefine their role as innovation leaders, addressing strategic and operational challenges across the business value chain. They are also using emerging tech to enhance user experiences by providing immersive interactions, seamless collaboration and personalised services, creating differentiated value in the market and fostering sustainable growth. In addition, GCCs are also embracing automation, digitization, and self-service solutions to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Insights from the KPMG CEO Outlook 2023 revealed that 96% of the tech leaders credit the tech function of their enterprises enabling them confidently to explore the potential of emerging tech. 70% of the CEOs have mentioned Gen AI as their top investment priority. 67% of the leaders are expected to amplify their output with smaller budgets, further increasing the importance of GCCs as tech and innovation hubs to help organisations to implement tech strategies cost-effectively as-well-as address cyber threats in their adoption. GCCs can further develop capabilities on GenAI and streamline GenAI governance/ adoption process for global organisations.

Considerations and concerns related to emerging technologies for GCCs

gcc risk 4

  1. Unstructured innovation: A GCC must approach innovation with a structured approach, the absence of which can hinder its effectiveness when implemented.
  1. Absence of a compelling business case: The absence of compelling business cases undermines the justification for emerging tech adoption. This is especially true in the recent times with Gen AI. Many a times, suitable business case for the tech and quantifying the ROI is not detailed out, leading to a lot of confusion later.
  1. Growing demand for technology adoption: Quick modifications and enhancements are often incorrectly equated with substantial innovation, leading to a misalignment of priorities. It is necessary to concentrate on achieving significant breakthroughs and fostering disruptive innovations, rather than rather than rushing to showcase usage of emerging technologies with low value updates.

It becomes crucial for GCCs to clearly define the rationale for adopting emerging technologies prior to exploring the implementation methodologies.
