Digital Transformation is a journey and many organizations are struggling to put in place a digital strategy. One of the ways to hasten is through leveraging low code platforms.

The taxonomy of enterprise IT is changing, thanks to the disruptive digital technologies that are rewriting the rules of the game. Typical low code scenarios span across implementing business process automation, specific permission-based workflows, knowledge management, access rights, CRM, analytics among others can be built in very short turnaround times.

MARKET DYNAMICS

Going by available data, low code adoption dynamics appear bullish. The latest forecast by Gartner Inc says that the worldwide low-code development technologies market is projected to total $13.8 billion in 2021, an increase of 22.6% from 2020. The surge in remote development during the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to boost low-code adoption, despite ongoing cost optimization efforts.

It is expected that low-code as a general social and technological movement is expected to continue growing significantly. For example, Low-Code Application Platforms (LCAP) are expected to remain the largest component of the low-code development technology market through 2022, increasing nearly 30% from 2020 to reach $5.8 billion in 2021, as per Gartner Inc.

What is driving low-code adoption? It’s digital. For instance, digital business acceleration is putting pressure on IT leaders to dramatically increase application delivery speed and ‘Time to Value’. The increased demand for custom software solutions in support of digital transformation has sparked the emergence of citizen developers outside of IT, which, in turn, has influenced the rise in low-code. Moreover, SaaS vendors are also pitching aggressively on low-code development technologies.

A data point from Gartner Inc puts things in perspective, ” On average, 41% of employees outside of IT – or business technologists – customize or build data or technology solutions. Gartner predicts that half of all new low-code clients will come from business buyers that are outside the IT organization by year-end 2025.”

With cloud adoption on the rise, it augurs well for low-code platforms. Today diverse industries leverage low-code development platforms to jumpstart their digital initiatives.
