Insights have been taken from the session – Integration of Hardware and Software Designs: Redefining the benchmarks from 14th NASSCOM Design and Engineering Summit

Automotive is undergoing a massive disruption. The next revolution in automotive sector is expected to change mobility as we know it. No longer is a car just a means of transportation, but rather now they are even looked at as software on wheels or computer on wheels or cloud/edge on wheels.

Trends in automotive industry

  1. Combination of software with the electric transformation and design possibilities in automotive industry is revolutionary. The vehicles are being designed as not only means of transportation but also as vehicles for transporting data to and from customers to enable a dynamic adaptable experience.

  1. Roadmap for software and automotive – Currently electric vehicles with a range of 1200 km on a single charge are already plying on the road globally. Software simulation is being done to predict the range of an EV, ensure optimum recharging of battery, thus enabling maximum efficiency of the vehicle. For creating a sustainable and credible solution, building trust among the customers by providing advance information regarding the charge left till next charging station and quelling that anxiety is of utmost importance. Connectivity of the vehicle to cloud and charging infrastructure to provide the information to the customers regarding the next charging station, length of time for the car to be charged to reach its destination are all inputs which will provide peace of mind to the customer and enable more end consumers to adopt EVs.

  1. Software will play a huge role in automotive. More focus is expected to be on performance optimisation, application software, user experience, control points, security mechanism etc. Use of technology for improving driver experience, autonomous driving, body domain, seamless integration of drivetrain (including electric drivetrain), chip to cloud connectivity, software defined vehicles is expected to be future of mobility. Use of data generated for insurance purposes, cloud to share information in real time, telematics, collision avoidance, safety etc. are expected to be mainstream in the near future.

  1. India is synonymous with software. Indian tech ecosystem should be leveraged. Complex vehicle systems are now being developed and studied in India and India can play a very important role due to the increasing use of software in mobility

The future of mobility is being invented today. Therefore, it is imperative that sustainable methods of manufacturing as well as focus on greentech should be the focus going forward.
