Read DSCI’s new threat advisory as part of DSCI’s Threat Intelligence & Research initiative that includes a new ransomware family- DarkSide. It’s a new ransomware operation that has been targeting organizations with custom-built attacks since the first week of August.

DarkSide is a new ransomware operation that has been targeting organizations with custom-built attacks since the first week of August. The threat actors behind DarkSide target large companies that are eligible to pay the huge ransom. DarkSide’s ransom demands range from $200,000 to $2,000,000. The cybercriminals have refrained from attacking a few sectors such as medicines, education, non-profit organizations, and governments.

Infection and Propagation:
This ransomware usually lures its victim via spam emails that come with attachments or links present in them and as soon as the user clicks on it, they get infected. After the user gets infected, strong encryption of the data takes place so that victims could not decrypt it without the software which could only be purchased from the attackers behind the malware.
