Building Flexibility in our Approach to Work

The growing acceptance of hybrid work has expanded the definition of the traditional workspace. Earlier, while it exclusively meant the office, the conference room, or your workstation, a workspace today is wherever an employee can concentrate and get work done from, whether it is at home, in the office, or somewhere in between. Work is no longer a place but a space where people come together to collaborate in different ways.

The modern workforce is anchored by the hybrid work model and does not want to accept the pre-pandemic workplace relics anymore — they want greater flexibility and autonomy in where they choose to work and how they use their time. They are asking for a hand on the steering wheel, giving rise to a new era of work defined by employees’ ability to ensure optimum outcomes by being location agnostic. Every company’s own business model, unique culture, and employee structure will determine how they move forward in this era of work transformation.

Work-life balance has transformed into work-life integration, as the “Anywhere Workforce” demands that businesses adapt and offer collaboration solutions that support remote work and integration with multiple devices and locations. One of the most effective ways for organisations to prepare their employees to be successful and efficient, whether they are in-office or at-home, is to adopt a unified communications solution. An enterprise-grade unified communications solution will enable a consistent technology experience and build flexibility right into the backbone of your workspace philosophy. As our work styles continue to evolve and technology continues to be the pivot, progressive organizations need to be prepared for the future of workspaces.

To gain a competitive advantage, brands need to gain a deeper understanding of how every single individual is adapting to work in this new era. Expectations have evolved, and stakeholders want flexible, modern solutions that mirror the way we like to communicate and work.

A successful business is defined by its  employees’ happiness quotient. Employee experience is one of the key drivers of customer retention. But creating this positive environment now focuses more on an adaptive culture and flexible, innovative technology rather than perks disguised as benefits. Employees need quality  features and resources to be successful wherever they are. Improving employee happiness, supporting them in maintaining a work-life balance, and giving them simple to use, accessible, and inclusive collaboration tools. Overall, undertaking the necessary steps to make employees feel deeply connected to a company's brand will reflect in their positive interactions with customers.

The days when the employee experience was viewed separately from the customer experience are gone. It is important to realize how both are inextricably linked to business growth. Just like employees, today’s customers want to feel valued by the brands they trust and less like a business transaction. This long-term relationship requires that organizations have empathetic options to give customers a sense of being understood and valued. Organizations need to provide convenient, multi-channel support not only to meet customers where they are but also to establish a sincere interaction in a format that appeals most to them.

Now is the time for brands to transform and elevate the experience for both their internal and external stakeholders. Flexibility remains key to creating a brand that people will remember and want to interact with. It is paramount to seek out solutions that are scalable and can support the changing needs of all stakeholders including your employees, partners, and customers.

The era of flexibility requires today’s leadership to be agile, especially in how they benchmark success. Leadership needs to get comfortable with the concept of making changes to understand what success will look like as they go along, using employee and customer satisfaction as the defining metric for decision-making.

Tomorrow belongs to those who are willing to take the time to evolve today. As we look to embrace this new hybrid era, agility will be crucial. The ability to respond to this change with investments in core technologies, assess how well your business’ technology is aligned with its overall strategy, and invest in the ongoing relationship and collaboration between business leaders and technology leaders will determine milestone achievements. The future of work will be based on enabling a flexible working environment for our employees. Modern working arrangements that accommodate our increasingly dispersed global employees — coupled with tools, resources, and principles to guide our new work reality — will be crucial.

And collaboration platforms will be critical to the success of these arrangements.
