The 2020 Unisys Security Index is the only regular snapshot of security concerns conducted globally, since year 2007. The Unisys Security Index provides a regular, statistically robust measure of concerns about four categories of security – national, financial, personal and internet security. It is a B2C survey that covers major insights on security concerns across the mentioned areas and results in the Security Index calculated based on the average of consumers’ concerns in these areas. The survey is comprehensive in terms of demographic segments and provides insights along these lines. The survey also goes deep into the willingness of individuals to share their personal information with different private and government institutions, in different situations cited in the survey. This study covers the India for the first time in year 2020.

Executive Summary

Unisys plays a prominent role in efforts to combat risk through the technology products and services it provides to governments and major industries across the globe. Unisys’ commitments to public and financial safety and security are the reasons for the creation of this index to monitor progress in these areas. The Unisys Security Index is the only regular snapshot of security concerns conducted globally. Launched globally in 2H 2007 the Unisys Security Index provides a regular, statistically robust measure of concerns about four areas of security- National, Financial, Internet, Personal, with sub-parameters under each. The Security Index is calculated based on the average of consumers’ concerns about security in these areas. This year, the Unisys Security Index™ has come to India for the first time. Growing digitization, internet and mobile penetration and increasing awareness about security, especially cybersecurity is all reflected in the findings. The findings also reveal interesting perspectives into the demographic trends within security concerns of the people of the country.

Key highlights of the report:

1. The 2020 Unisys Security Index covers India for the first time.
2. Of the countries surveyed, India has recorded the second highest level of security concerns overall, with a Unisys Security Index of 223 out of 300, around 27% above global average.
3. Identity theft is the topmost security concern in India, with 83% Indians concerned about it.
4. 82% respondents are concerned about bankcard fraud and online banking, which involve both personal and financial data.
5. Of the 15 countries surveyed, India recorded the highest level of concern around online shopping, with 82% concerned about it.
6. Family health is the topmost security concern for Indians in a health crisis such as COVID-19.
7. Only 32% of Indians are concerned about the risk of data/security breach while working remotely.
8. Security concerns are higher among females between the age group of 35-44year old.
9. Willingness to share data with different individual and government organizations is different in different scenarios:
