As engineering and manufacturing activities expand globally, enterprises are continuously looking out for newer ways to expand and collaborate across various teams present across the world. Shifting of engineering activities to cloud has been one such initiative which has helped in making collaboration easier between different teams.

In the next few years, many industries are expected to witness high cloud adoption for their engineering activities.

Automotive, high tech and telecom, and manufacturing are expected to witness high adoption of cloud in the next few years.

  • Automotive is expected to grow the fastest due to the need for higher product innovation for connected and autonomous vehicles.
  • High-tech and telecom is expected to have high adoption as players manage short product lifespans through integrated PLM.
  • Manufacturing is expected to continue to grow at a fast pace, driven by the move toward smart manufacturing
  • Healthcare and life sciences grew at a healthy rate during the pandemic, but they continue to be highly regulated. Hence, growth is expected to slow down in the short term but is expected to bounce back in the next few years.
  • Heavy equipment is expected to grow in conjunction with the manufacturing industry to meet the supply chain demand
  • Retail and CPG growth is expected to stabilize because of existing maturity and relatively low 2D/3D design requirements
  • Aerospace and defense industry is expected to have a relatively low growth because of stringent data security requirements.
  • Utilities and resources sector is expected to grow gradually because of heavy dependence on OT systems and their slow cloud adoption.
  • Construction and engineering are expected to continue with low-to-medium adoption because of stable demand and workloads.
  • Agriculture is expected to have relatively low adoption because of limited and untested use cases.

While many industries are fast adopting cloud for their engineering activities, there are many who are in the process of adopting the same and exploit the benefits that come with moving to cloud.
