The cloud industry has experienced rapid expansion in the last two years, owing to the rising demand for innovative technology. As COVID-19 triggered hybridized work and an increase in the digital delivery of services, cloud computing exploded in 2020 and 2021. IT leaders sought to move workloads to the cloud to assure business continuity for remote workers, resulting in a surge in cloud usage. Clearly, the impetus of cloud adoption will only continue to grow this year and beyond, having established its benefits among users.

We observe that organizations across industries that are keen on updating their infra, increasing system reliability, supporting hybrid work styles, and just basically maneuvering the new reality, are pushing their timeframes for digital business activities and moving swiftly to the cloud.

Did you know that the end-user expenditure on public cloud services is expected to reach $482 billion in 2022?

- Gartner

What’s interesting is that an average employee uses 36 cloud-based services to go about their daily routine. The prominence of the cloud in conducting business today is undeniable and we gather the below to be trending in 2022:

  • A Transition to Multi-Cloud Strategy
  • Serverless Design
  • Cloud Security
  • Hybrid Cloud Computing
  • Hybrid Working & Virtual Desktops
  • Distributed Cloud
  • Cloud Automation

Sustainability in the Cloud

The invention, distribution and use of cloud services that promote a net positive commitment economically, environmentally, and socially over time are referred to as cloud sustainability. While almost all cloud providers have sustainability policies in place, their progress toward carbon reduction goals and strategies for achieving net-zero carbon emissions differs dramatically. Nonetheless, measures to make cloud computing more environment-friendly include the use of renewable energy sources, making DCs energy-efficient, ensuring hardware recycles, and more. Research shows that cloud migrations will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 59 million tons a year! For years, organizations have been driving financial, security, and agility benefits through the cloud, but sustainability is becoming imperative.

While not everything above will be your top priority, it is best to seek expert opinion before getting started on your cloud transformation journey.
