Government is one of the biggest spenders on cloud computing, but a very limited study and data sets are available to assess the cloud adoption trends in government organizations in India. As India is steering towards Digital India it becomes essential for the government to embrace the cloud to enhance governance and meet the citizen expectations.

The below infographic illustrates the distinction among the four categories of government ministries and departments on their stage of cloud journey: Ponderers (still thinking), Commencer (started), Moderate (middle of their journey), and experts (already using cloud and are well on track).

As depicted in the table above, the experts are highly aware of the benefits of cloud and have taken several initiatives and their systems to cloud. They have dedicated teams taking care of cloud operations and budgets allocated to improve upon every year. Also, they plans set for short and long run to improve and update. This is the group of user ministries and departments that is reaping all the benefits of cloud and having huge number of user base as well in case of consumer facing apps.

In all, Ministries/departments further ahead on their cloud journeys as compared to others can spread awareness on the benefits of the cloud.
