This is a story of how to get your cloud migration right - Balancing today’s requirements with tomorrow’s predictions.

As part of the nasscom Cloud Advocacy Program, we have been interviewing leaders from end-user enterprises to explore their cloud adoption journey and various aspects of digital transformation.

I recently spoke with Manjunath Prasad, Head IT, TVS MOBILITY PVT LTD on his experience of moving from an on-prem data centre to a 100% public cloud setup:

  • Phase I: From on-prem to colocation data centre (~7-8 years ago)
  • Phase II: Move to 100% cloud (2018-2019)

Manjunath covers in detail how he and his team had to meticulously plan the entire journey:

  • Pre-migration: Understand existing setup & its various dependencies;
  • Through migration: Prioritise apps/workloads, test select non-core apps/workloads in a cloud setting, understand various nuances, & more;
  • Post migration: Ensure all systems are well integrated and account for the stabilisation phase

He stressed on getting the timing of the actual migration right so as to avoid any disruption to your customers/vendors and also emphasized on the importance of constant communication both with internal and external stakeholders.
