With the COVID-19 virus outbreak mounting globally, it has disrupted the way we work at a breakneck speed. Organisations across the world are pushed to work remotely and have instituted robust remote-work policies for their employees. In this uncertain time, where the lines of work and life get blurry, it is essential to maintain work-life balance. Here are five tips that can help techies to manage time during quarantine:

Prioritise and plan your day

While you are remotely working from home and this keeps us productive & safe from the current COVID-19 situation, time and boundaries seems to blur easily between work and home. It’s important that we plan and schedule our day well and have a clear “ME TIME”. Self-Discipline and adherence to a time-based daily schedule is very critical to remain creative, fresh and productive.

You have excess time now

All of us are saving in travel and traffic time. Work from home returns at least 4 hours of non-productive highly frustrating traffic and commute time back into our lives. It is important to have a clear plan to utilise this extra time to catch up on reading and gather important additional knowledge. We will come out of this situation sooner than later and the world will be a very different place when normalcy returns. This is the right time to prepare yourself for that and be ultra-ready to welcome the new world.

Watch your health

Activity is very critical for all of us to remain mentally alert and healthy. A good level of planned physical activity like yoga or home-based exercises, will help us remain positive in the current situation and will bring in a positive perspective to all aspects in life. Remaining positive in these times is the basis of remaining productive as a frustrated and gloomy mind will only weaken us further.

What, when, how – SAY DO Ratio

Communicate openly with your leaders, seek clarifications and allow no room for assumptions and ambiguity. Replay your understanding of the expectation more than once with your leader and communicate clearly with “what, when and how” of your deliverables. Working remotely means we set and manage very clear expectations and a 100% SAY-DO ratio.

Stay Connected

We are humans and have been social animals much before social media came into existence. Call your friends, leaders, colleagues, exchange your thoughts and concerns openly and you may find yourself in the same ship as the entire world. The feeling of not being alone is reassuring and hence, it is crucial to talk to your family and stay connected with them.

Embracing remote work is important and together, we can discover new ways to make the most out of it. When it’s over, it will be left to us “the techies” to restore growth and normalcy.
