Re-imagining Education in the post-covid era

It’s been a decade since we began hearing the “smart-class” buzzword. Since then, many such smart-classes have been set up in different parts of the country - especially in states where the quality of education is considered “superior”. The prime objective has been to improve learning outcomes by driving student engagement through animated content.

While there could be no denial of the fact that the “smart-class” concept has been fruitful for students, there’s been several usage and technological-based challenges that limit its usability. As a result, this smart-class concept lags far behind in utilizing its true potential.

This has majorly been due to two aspects:

1. Firstly, these are set up using complex peripheral systems including projectors, sound systems, CPUs, etc. Maintaining these peripherals possess a big challenge as the breakdown of even a single device can make the system inoperative.

2. Secondly, the teachers & children refrain from adoption due to lack of ease of usage.

“In the post-covid-era, we can surely not run away from such "digital-class" concepts and a hybrid model of education evolving where such digital classes are supplementing conventional teaching methods”

With the Government’s strong push for digital penetration, we are moving towards an ecosystem where each one of us- including children from rural and urban areas, is having access to internet-enabled touch-based devices. What’s  even more-fascinating is that the user requires no prior training and there is a self-developed interest and curiosity for using such devices.

"With multiple institutions coming up and implementing smart-class projects, the user adoption of such devices shall be the first yardstick towards learning evaluation, as the true adoption only occurs when a teacher and student don't take this as a burden to learning"

With the entire interface designed in multilingual options including English, Hindi, and other regional languages, a natural and proactive adoption takes place from the student’s side which mitigates the burden of learning as the prime barrier.
