Today, all innovations are being driven by the ability to perceive solutions through multiple viewpoints. And one of the ways to address this is by acknowledging the perspective of differently abled candidates with their varied world view.

This innovation methodology hold true for both Product and Services industries. Most companies are recognizing that there is a need to address their employment mind-set from the very inception in order to build a truly inclusive environment. However the ways and means to this process is still being limited to CSR activities. SSC NASSCOM wants to go beyond the government mandate and truly bring persons with disability (PwD) job seekers at par with all candidates.

The reality that most PwDs candidates face is limited accessibility to job opportunities due to inadequacy in infrastructure and support needed for long-term employment, and NOT due to their lack of qualification and desired skills.

It is this gap in feasibility and accessibility that we are looking to address both from the perspective of companies as well as job seekers.

Today there are over a billion people worldwide afflicted by disabilities, of which 40-50 million are in India. It is essential to include them in the workforce and not merely see it as a mandatory exercise in inclusivity.

We at SSC NASSCOM, are working towards this shared vision of facilitating the process of providing “Equal Opportunities” for differently abled job-seekers. The Placement Drive arranged on 30th July, 2019 with National Association for Blind at Delhi was the pilot project which we gradually hope to amalgamate with our regular Rojgar Melas and replicate nationally.

This was an open placement drive for the PwD candidates and the invitation for participation was extended to many other PwD Trusts and NGOs associated with disabilities. Some of the other NGOs which encouraged their candidates to participate in this drive are Samarthanam Trust for Disables and Sarthak Education Trust etc.

More than 230 candidates registered with varied afflicted conditions such as Visually Impairment (VI), Orthopedically Handicapped (OH), Physical Disability (PD), Locomotor Disability and even Deaf & Mute.

The SSC NASSCOM team worked as a conduit between HR leaders of participating companies (HCL Technologies, Conduent, WNS, Aegis, Nagarro, Majorel ) and the deserving candidates to formulate a framework for continued engagement . The interviewing companies were overwhelmed by the aspirations, intuitiveness and sheer aptitude of these candidates.

A majority of these candidates were graduates including B.Tech/ M.tech and even Ph.D. Much to our delight, they were skilled in more than basic IT and even trained in enabler tools like JAWS (Screen Reader Software) & NVDA (Non Visual Desktop Access). Further a substantial number of candidates were QP certified (CRM Voice) as well.

The larger goal of the team is to make all our Placement drives inclusive in nature. We want to leverage the complete potential of our skilled workforce and work towards making India Digital Talent Hub. We hope to provide a platform where the Industry requirements are addressed while giving equal opportunities to “all” job-seekers, in parallel.
