Evaluating employees’ current skill levels and creating a learning journey that’s integrated with both their interests and the organization’s strategic objectives is important.

The world that we live in is constantly changing. The only way to keep up, especially at the workplace, is to enhance our knowledge. Preparing for change is vital to an organization’s survival and growth. In a professional context, continuous learning is the process of intentionally expanding our skills and knowledge for personal, professional and organizational improvement. It is when an employee learns both technical and soft skills, enabling them to anticipate change and ascend the corporate ladder.

It not only increases employee morale and job satisfaction but also has a great impact on productivity. Feeling fulfilled and confident leads to a boost in productivity, inevitably benefitting employers and driving the business towards success.

Elevating our skills ensures that we remain at the top of their game. According to a survey, 74% of employees felt they were not achieving their full potential due to a lack of development opportunities and 80% agreed that learning new skills would make them more engaged. Engagement and interest steer productivity.

Building expertise through learning initiatives is far more advantageous when practiced by teams and is a great opportunity for colleagues and their managers to engage in closer collaboration which, in turn, leads to increased team productivity. When employees are given a sense of purpose and accomplishment, it leads to better performance.

Employees like to be in control of what they learn and how they learn it. Globally, 58% of employees prefer to learn at their own pace, which is why we encourage employees to explore the wide range of courses available on our LinkedIn Learning platform. They have the liberty to choose courses that will allow them to deliver higher value, and which will enhance the skills and knowledge required to perform their role efficiently.

Often, not being able to keep up with the dynamism leads to a feeling of redundancy and frustration. Staying abreast on dynamic market trends through constant learning will help us cultivate a positive work culture.

Evaluating employees’ current skill levels and creating a learning journey that’s integrated with both their interests and the organization’s strategic objectives is important. Establishing a culture of continuous learning isn’t easy, but when done right, it will help your employees achieve their highest potential, and that only means steady growth and success for the business!
