This morning, I was reading about how companies are giving perks to employees to return to office. This is driven by the fact that today companies understand that the employees want flexibility and they need to balance this need with the company’s culture and client requirements.

Amidst these perks companies today are offering more leaves for their employees, part-time working and long-term breaks. Companies are also offering customized leaves catering to the new age requirements of employees which includes wellness, wedding, pet adoption, and study leaves, among others.

Moreover, as hybrid work models gain popularity, organizations are investing heavily in Workspaces, both to bring talent back to office as well as to enable organizations to efficiently and effectively adapt to different work models.

This discussion brings us to the third pillar of Fow – “Future of Workplace”. And apart from the various perks that we discussed earlier, companies are taking various initiatives to become employers of choice and to attract talent back into offices including:

  • Designing offices to increase collaboration, increase security and ensure sustainability and making workspaces adaptable, technology enabled and innovative.
  • Implementing Environmental Social Governance Initiatives including diversity hiring, inclusive leadership, social impact volunteering and carbon footprint reduction

Now the important point that comes to mind is why are organizations looking towards “Return to Office”. One of the key reason that we heard from HR leadership across industry was the need for stronger cultural connections, which is driving organizations to get employees to operate from offices. Also, they believe that certain soft skills, organizational behaviors, and key on the job learnings happen when people interact with each other are in office and these learnings also help in building the organisation culture. Thus, ‘return to office’ seems to have gained a lot of traction over the last few months. Another factor that drives the need for employees to be in the office is the type of work they do.
