GCCs have been consistently investing in talent building in their own capacity, and given their evolving role within the parent organization, they are investing significantly in upskilling, leadership development, and talent diversity, as part of the initiatives to embolden their contributions on the global front. Structured GCC investments in India’s talent have resulted in enhanced capabilities for the nation and a strong pipeline of mature leaders, thereby empowering diverse people with new career opportunities.

Comprehensive Skilling

  • $275-325 million spent in five years since 2015 on digital skilling of ~200k employees
  • $250-300 million in productivity enhancements measured as a result of continuous learning in management and latest technologies
  • 3-4% increase in graduate employability with grassroots intervention in curating curriculum

Leadership development

  • 55-60k leaders groomed in best practices to take on diverse global roles; lead Indian startups
  • 1200-1500 tech startups founded by ex-GCC leaders with 85-90k jobs created
  • Increasing rate of leadership mobility between local and global units

*NASSCOM’S study on Global Capability Centers: Leadership Capabilities For Digital 2020+ puts the spotlight on organizational-scale leadership development at GCCs to make them future-ready, starting at the mid-level management layers.

Diversity and inclusion

  • 35% of GCC employees are women, versus, 21% of India average
  • 40% of India’s most inclusive companies are GCCs; 27% of GCCs feature in the Best Places to Work for Women
  • Strong impetus on Tier 2-3 talent upliftment and hiring

While GCCs have been constantly investing in talent, certain challenges must be addressed for India to be seen as a ‘provider of intellectual capital at scale’. A four-stage framework comprising consistent intervention, best-practices sharing, global experience exchange, and mindset-evolutionary trainings are the focus for GCCs to build the next level of human capital proposition for India.
