I take this opportunity to update you all with positive developments in Japan last week. There is a lot that happened recently and here are the key highlights.

We did two fairly large events with greater Japanese participation in two cities of Japan (Osaka & Tokyo) and signed an historic MOU with METI besides opening many doors with our counterpart agencies. Here are the highlights:

22/02 – Osaka Seminar NASSCOM India “IoT Seminar” in Kansai

Title- “Realizing the Software Defined Enterprise through Indo-Japanese collaboration”

  • Audience: 100+ in Total ; Japanese companies- 50+ from manufacturing vertical ; Indian companies: 25+
  • Theme was to promote ER&D Capabilities of Indian IT Industry
  • CGI Osaka also spoke at the event

23/02 – Tokyo – NASSCOM Seminar with Nomura Research Institute(NRI) and Embassy of India

Title – “Digital IT Strategy and Potential in India IT Sector – Implementing smart manufacturing with India IT resources”

  • Audience: 100+ in Total ; Japanese companies- 50+ from manufacturing vertical ; Indian companies: 25+
  • We surveyed more than 1000 Japanese companies with Nomura Research Institute (NRI) in the field of Smart Manufacturing, IoT and Big Data space to ascertain their plans, challenges, investment’s in to this digitisation drive by the Japanese companies.
  • About 100 odd Japanese manufacturing companies responded to the survey
  • About 50+ of these respondents came for the event on 23rd Feb in Tokyo in partnership with Embassy of India
  • Indian Ambassador to Japan also spoke at the event besides head of IoT strategy at METI

MOU with IoT Acceleration Consortium (ITAC)

  • We signed a historic MOU with ITAC (an METI initiative) on IoT cooperation
  • Dr. Murai, Chairman ITAC, who is considered as “Father of the internet in Japan” and an iconic figure signed from their side
  • MOU intends to facilitate sharing of information related with the respective IoT industries; Facilitating mutual visits of each association’s members (including SMEs); and Identify projects and fields that ITAC and NASSCOM could be collaborated
  • With this we would try an change the perception related with the Indian IT Industry in Japan only being supplier of cheap human resources and forging G2G, B2B and A2A collaboration
  • Kindly note that Japan has signed similar intent only with Germany and the US and hence this is a big deal for India
  • Also sharing the link on METI’s website for the MOU that NASSCOM signed with ITAC http://www.meti.go.jp/press/2016/02/20170224004/20170224004.html?
  • Local media coverage in Japan (NNA Asia) http://www.nna.jp/articles/show/1576183 ?

India show at CEATEC – 2017 ?

Most of the members are extremely appreciative and enthusiastic about our efforts and are already asking us about the next steps and are egging us to put together India show during CEATEC 2017, the largest show in Japan.
