Dear Members,

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper on ‘Regulatory framework for Promoting Data Economy Through Establishment of Data Centres, Content Delivery Networks, and Interconnect Exchanges in India’.

The paper stresses on the need to create appropriate regulatory framework and policies to support and promote digital communications infrastructure and services in line with the objectives of the National Digital Communication Policy 2018 (NDCP-2018) and seek inputs related to the following:

  • Measures and incentives that are required for the promotion of Data Centers in India including any challenges being faced by data centre entities
  • Promotion of Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) including any existing issues affecting their growth in the country
  • Regulatory framework/ guidelines required for establishing Interconnect Exchanges / Internet Exchange Points (IXPs)
