EPFO Simplifies PF Transfer Claims: Overlapping Service Periods No Longer Grounds for Rejection

On May 20, 2025, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) issued a significant circular addressing the longstanding issue of overlapping service periods in PF transfer claims. Previously, many transfer claims faced automatic rejection due to coinciding employment end and start dates, often caused by administrative delays or early joining at a new workplace.

Key Changes Introduced:

  • No Automatic Rejection: PF transfer claims should no longer be rejected merely due to overlapping service dates.

  • Selective Clarifications: EPFO offices will seek clarification on overlaps only when genuinely necessary or in cases raising suspicion.

  • Verification Protocols: Claims will continue to undergo standard verification processes to ensure accuracy and prevent fraudulent activity.

This proactive step by EPFO aims to streamline the PF transfer process, minimize unnecessary procedural delays, and provide substantial relief to employees transitioning between jobs.
