Recently, MeitY invited comments on the 'Draft National Strategy for Robotics’. The strategy aims to position India as a global leader in robotics by 2030 to actualise its transformative potential. Nasscom called for inputs from its members and responded to the strategy by highlighting certain challenges and specific recommendations on how to spur investment and demand in the robotics ecosystem in India.

Our principal recommendations are as follows:

Recommendation 1

Government should identify use-cases in its departments/public sector entities and promote/mandate them to adopt robotics through digital transformation projects, like in railways, municipality, etc.

Recommendation 2

Public sector entities should initiate domestic manufacturing of motors and electronics to build a strong supply chain and reduce cost of production/import dependency.

Recommendation 3

Government departments and public sector entities should draw up clear plans for investment in academia with a focus on outcome after regular discussion with the industry.

Recommendation 4

Government should support the development of open-source robotics and consortiums to enable an integrated robotic environment and utilise its purchasing power to prioritise the purchase of open, interoperable systems.
