While being in HR for last 15+ years I have worked with various Executive Teams who had different thoughts in terms of what is the best way of retaining and developing employees in the organization.

Some felt that getting fresh thoughts was a good idea to take things ahead. Some felt promoting internally was a better call. While there were contemplation on every stage based on my experiences I can assertively say that it is always important to promote and develop our current employees rather than hiring and training new ones. While sometimes the demands of an individual is unrealistic but if we show a clear path to the employee and share transparently the current needs and future scopes it can improve our chances to get the employee be more focused and building himself/herself to help in the growth of the organization.

From an organization standpoint:

1. Promoting current employees can be more cost-effective and time saving. Promoting from within has several advantages. First, it shows employees that their hard work and dedication are appreciated, which can increase job satisfaction and motivation. Second, it can save the company money in recruitment and training costs. Third, it can lead to more effective leadership, as promoted employees are familiar with the company culture and processes.
2. Investing in the growth and development of current employees can lead to a more skilled and motivated workforce.
3. Losing valuable employees can also result in lost business opportunities.

What can an Human Resource Professional do more strategically to help businesses to grow in a long run?

1. Offer regular promotions and career development opportunities to existing employees to ensure they feel valued and motivated.
2. Implement a performance-based system to identify and reward high-performing employees, encouraging them to stay and grow within the company.
3. Create a mentorship program where experienced employees can help train and develop their colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
4. Provide regular training and upskilling opportunities to employees to help them acquire new skills and stay competitive in their fields.
5. Conduct regular employee satisfaction surveys to understand their needs and desires, and use the feedback to improve their experience and promote their growth.
6. Encourage cross-functional collaboration and job rotation to provide employees with exposure to different roles and skillsets, enabling them to expand their knowledge and expertise.
7. Establish a clear career path and growth plan for each employee, outlining the skills and experience needed to advance to the next level.

Personal growth and development are crucial aspects of an individual's life. In the context of the workplace, personal growth and development can lead to increased job satisfaction, better performance, and overall career advancement.
