The rollout of 5G services in India have opened a plethora of opportunities for the Indian Tech companies. The technology will be able to provide seamless coverage, low latency, and highly reliable communication systems. The integration of 5G technology is expected to play a major role in achieving great economic heights.

With ample number of benefits that 5G brings, most IT businesses in India are planning on adopting this new technology and are readily hiring talented individuals with crucial 5G skills that would enable these companies to establish their position in this flourishing domain. Most IT companies are hiring new employees who can demonstrate a strong set of technology and 5G skills and are able to adapt to the evolving tech ecosystem.

A May 2022 report by the Telecom Sector Skills Council (TSSC) estimates that India will need 22 million skilled manpower by 2025 to reap the benefits of 5G, but the demand-supply gap stands at 28%. An Indian techie, looking to get a job in the Indian IT domain, should have some of the below mentioned crucial 5G skills:

  • Secure Network Architecture Design

With the growing influence of 5G and IoT, proficiency in this skill would demonstrate the depth of computing knowledge that the candidate possesses. Besides designing, the ability to deploy, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade the system is also a necessity.

  • Big Data Analytics

It is one of the most crucial 5G skills that organizations would be looking for efficient business operations and maximum profits. Having proficiency in big data would mean that the candidate has sufficient knowledge to extract insights into emerging transformations in technology.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) Systems

Organizations would continue to deploy advanced AI systems with 5G technologies to gain an edge over their peers. Hence, it is required for modern techies to gain proficiency in these skills.

  • Programming skills

With 5G, programming and coding would emerge as one of the most crucial 5G skills that techies would need to enter the Indian IT domain.

  • Internet of Things (IoT)

Emergence of 5G technology has hyped up the prominence of the IoT market. 5G can improve the performance and reliability of these systems to a great extent.

  • Cloud Computing

A cloud database linked to a 5G network opens multiple opportunities for edge computing, which will enhance the system performance by reducing bandwidth usage, network congestion, and processing large volumes of data easily.

  • DevOps

DevOps facilitates software development and maintenance and unites all departments involved in software development into a single team, driven by a specific set of tools and defined stages to reach these goals. The technology brings acceleration and automation, which is why a developer building 5G-driven software must use DevOps to rule out traditional organizational values and work towards adapting to the changing circumstances.

  • Open-Source Software skills

Business open-source solutions will help boost 5G across industries like manufacturing, automotive, and transportation. Acing these skills will not only help the candidates get a job in the Indian IT industry but will also impact several other industries in the process.

The 5G technology has led to the emergence of new skills like age computing, network function virtualisation, software defined networking, application network and cloud security and blockchain.

A lot of talent acquisition cannot be carried out from the market as it is a new thing. Organizations need to reskill and upskill their workforce on cloud computing, blockchain etc.

Since 5G rollout has just started, it will present a variety of use cases for industries like agricultural, retail, healthcare, gaming, financial services, energy & utilities, changing the employment needs in the upcoming years. Organizations would place a high value on specialised knowledge because everyone will be competing for the same jobs.

In addition to the telecom and tech sector hiring for 5G tech skills, semiconductor majors, mobility, start-ups, and automotive sector too are joining the talent crunch battle.
