Although it is a well-known fact that data is incredibly valuable and that data science enables us to recognise the true value of data, many online discussions claim data science is all hype and not worth it. Many also express their disenchantment with data science, saying that firms today employ data scientists to appear tech-savvy but that data science doesn't aid in getting anything of real value. Others even claim that cutting expenses can be achieved by hiring data scientists on the cheap or outsourcing work, even though they do not see any advantages!

All these could make one think that the excitement around data science is unfounded and that choosing to pursue a career in the field could be counterproductive. This is concerning, and anyone interested in data science might want to reconsider their choice if the hoopla surrounding it is just a marketing ploy.

However, we shall cover why data science can never be overhyped in this post. So if you're a data science aspirant, you don't need to fear.

What do the Experts Say?

In order to fully grasp the promise of data science, experts agree that it has been a constant uphill struggle due to the widespread belief that data science is some sort of magic that can overnight turn failing businesses into thriving ones. Others support conventional business practices and believe that data scientists are just interested in mathematics and research.

However, experts draw attention to the fact that data science has already shown its value in areas where it has been trusted and given adequate time. Leaders in the industry, including Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, have already used data science talents to great effect.

Let's use Amazon as an illustration of how data science has been successfully applied to promote consumer pleasure, resulting in tremendous corporate growth:

Data scientists provided insights to Amazon India's customer support staff regarding the following:

  • Issues that the majority of Amazon customers would call about
  • Rush hours, when the majority of Amazon customers are expected to contact customer service
  • Possible callers throughout the selling season
  • Which platform do most consumers favor?
  • Risks to data security while resolving client concerns

The leaders were able to manage the workforce to meet demand, proactively address problems, and, most significantly, increase customer happiness thanks to their deep insights into the other pointers. This resulted in a remarkable boost in customer satisfaction and a considerable decrease in the opt-out rate!

FInal Data science can never be Overhyped!

Data science is intriguing and has already successfully altered how business is conducted. Resistance to change is inevitable, and data science has undoubtedly encountered its fair share of opposition. The demand for data science hasn't decreased much, and more jobs are available than ever.
