The diversity landscape in the Indian technology industry makes a compelling reason to look at it from a multi-dimensional lens. While the SEBI mandate (that companies have at least one woman as director on their boards) and government bills (on the rights of persons with disabilities and to promote LGBT rights) in the workplace have set the pace on the compliance aspect, organizations are realizing another truth. Equity, inclusion, and diversity are actual tools of commercial success and not mere social or moral obligations. According to the Boston Consulting Group, diverse management teams improved revenue by 19%, while enhancing innovation1. It is not difficult to see why. Having a diverse workforce brings more people together from different backgrounds - with their unique creativity, experiences, and approaches. The technology industry has demonstrated this on the gender front - with close to 1.8 million women (36% of the total workforce2, and 25+ % at the managerial level3 in 2021), it has experienced significant gains in revenue and productivity. While more needs to be done for gender diversity, it has also unleashed an urgency to create diversity at other levels too - such as LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer), persons with disabilities (PwD), generational, neurodiversity, marginalized communities, etc.

what the experts say about ‘return on inclusion’. Employees in highly diverse and inclusive organizations show:

• 26% more team collaboration and 18% more team commitment (CEB/Gartner)

• 4.6x greater empowerment to perform ‘best work’ (Salesforce)

• 2x faster decision-making with half the number of meetings (Forbes)

• 3x chances of retaining millennials for more than five years (Deloitte)
