This Hyderabad-based AI company has bagged a PoC with Maruti Suzuki’s MAIL program, paving the way for Indian product companies to work closely with corporates on real-time use cases and strengthening the element of co-creation

Winners of the first cohort of the Mobility & Automobile Innovation Lab (MAIL) powered by Maruti Suzuki & GHV Accelerator.

At the recently concluded 16th NASSCOM Product Conclave, the hotly anticipated NASSCOM Startup Report 2019 was launched, revealing some dynamic and interesting data about India’s deep tech ecosystem. In 2019 alone, 1,300 startups were added, bringing the tally of India’s deep tech startups to well over 9,000.

India continues to hold its own as the world’s third largest startup ecosystem in the world, and deep tech has had a significant role to play in retaining this position. The stupendous success of companies like Freshworks, Zoho and Druva prove that a technologically sound product, backed by business insights, strategic marketing and customer acquisition can yield results. These companies have redefined the way product startups are viewed in India for the better.

Today, major industries and enterprises understand that product companies starting out have a strong grasp of an industry sector, combined with technological prowess and can train their energies on addressing specific challenges. Several companies are now actively seeking product startups & companies with an irresistible value proposition and technology offering to solve a niche problem.

India’s leading auto manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is one such – the Mobility & Automobile Innovation Lab (MAIL) program is an initiative to seek futuristic and customer-centric innovative & cutting-edge solutions in the mobility & auto sectors. The GHV Accelerator – the country’s first Indo-Japanese seed fund & co-creation centre in the country – is powering this initiative.

The first cohort successfully concluded last month, and three startups were declared winners. Of the three are SenseGiz, an alumnus of the NASSCOM Center of Excellence for IoT in Bangalore, and Eyedentify.ai, a member of the NASSCOM CoE DSAI Virtual Acceleration Program. SenseGiz was founded in 2013 by Abhishek Latthe, Dr. Kumar Rajesh, and Dr. Bharat Latthe. It makes enterprise and industrial IoT products for sensor-based condition monitoring, security and real time asset/people tracking applications using a combination of proprietary mesh connected hardware, cloud, analytics and apps.

Eyedentify.ai provides smart Automotive IoT that enhance safety for drivers, passengers and the fleet. It works on DMS (Driver Monitoring Systems) which use cameras to continuously monitor the driver’s face and eyes for signs of fatigue and distracted driving. Once the system detects these conditions, it immediately alerts the driver to stay attentive while driving.

SenseGiz and Eyedentify.ai have been been awarded a paid PoC by Maruti Suzuki.

Krishna Jasti, cofounder of Eyedentify.ai spoke to NASSCOM Center of Excellence on winning this prestigious PoC and more.

Tell us about your product Eyedentify and what challenge are you trying to solve

Globally there are over 800,000 fatal and 2 million non-fatal accidents involving vehicles with 4 or more wheels. Apart from loss of life and injury, these accidents cause severe financial hardship to logistic & product companies and also cause irreversible environmental damage in some cases. These accidents also have a major impact on the economies of countries, up to 1 to 2% of GDP for many developing countries. We at Eyedentify aim to create a future where commuting is worry free by leveraging computer vision, data analytics and artificial intelligence and providing quality V2X solutions that are affordable for everyone.

What specific challenge will you be addressing as part of the MAIL programme with MSIL?

Eyedentify is one of the 3 startups selected by MSIL to have a paid PoC with them. We are using our AI powered solutions on MSIL’s Test bed.

How has the experience been working with them?

We have worked with various teams at MSIL for the last six months and had a great experience. Through several discussion and brainstorming sessions with them, we came up with new features and functionalities that will have a positive impact on our product.

Indian corporates & enterprises are readily adopting or customising tech solutions made by startups such as yours. How is this going to help startups?

It is quite difficult for hardware startups to sell their solutions to corporates. Most corporates expect these startups to have already deployed large numbers of products because they are concerned about the unknowns – quality of the product and longevity of the startup. I am glad some corporates are attempting to evaluate products from startups like ours. I believe this encouragement is very necessary for hardware startups to flourish.

This is part of our ongoing series Innovate2Transform, where we bring to you the leaders of the industry talk about the latest in innovation, technology and trends in their industry sectors.
