Cloud – A strategic necessity for businesses in the new normal

My last blog “Cloud – The business value driver in the new normal ” highlighted the McKinsey study which showcased cloud as a major value creator estimated at more than $1 trillion.

Cloud – Accelerated by Covid-19

Though cloud was gaining acceptance across businesses, the cloud uptake accelerated significantly during the pandemic and is expected to maintain that pace with 87% of global IT decision-makers agreeing that the pandemic will cause organizations to accelerate their migration to the cloud, anticipating a decline in on-premises workloads by 2025.

This is also reflected in the fact that cloud spending witnessed a significant uptake with companies world-wide spending $34.6 billion on cloud services in 2Q2020, up ~11% from the previous quarter.

The table below summarizes the how cloud witnessed a significant uptake in post pandemic times driven by a significant shift towards remote working and use of collaboration tools, which made cloud shift a necessity.

With this shift towards the cloud, enterprises have to make a conscious effort towards building a cloud-ready operating model in order to derive the real value from the cloud.

One of the key challenges that most organizations have to get out of is the quagmire of legacy processes, methodologies, and technologies. Stay tuned for my next blog to know more on operating Cloud-ready operating models for organizations in the new normal.
