Leverage the Power of AI with Microsoft’s AI Builder

Artificial Intelligence has become a key priority. The COVID-19 pandemic forced many businesses to accelerate their adoption of AI and machine learning technologies. A study by Forbes states that 43% of enterprises say their AI and Machine Learning (ML) initiatives matter “more than we thought,” with one in four saying AI and ML should have been their top priority sooner.

Adding AI to your operations might have been just a dream for most small and mid-size enterprises a couple of years ago, but the introduction of Microsoft’s AI Builder has made adopting this technology easier and more cost effective no matter the size of your business.

So, what is the AI Builder?

The AI Builder is a no-code component of the Microsoft Power Platform that allows users to add AI capabilities to the apps they create and use. It is available in both Power Apps and Power Automate and empowers businesses to utilize AI to enable intelligent automation, predict future outcomes, and enhance their business performance.

Perhaps the most impressive feature of the AI Builder is its friendly user interface, offering users of all experience levels the ability to take advantage of next generation technology. AI Builder allows you to include AI in your projects with ease of point and click.

AI models for different business scenarios:

AI Builder makes AI technology available to everyone by featuring a set of pre-built and custom models which can be used to address various business needs.

For example: Sara is an HR Manager who needs an app that will screen job applications.  She wants the AI to read text and identify certain keywords prior to manually reviewing the resume. This can be easily accomplished using the pre-built text recognition model in the AI Builder.

Pre-built Models:

Some of the other pre-built models which are available in the AI Builder include:

  • Business Card Reader – can be used to scan business cards and automate a contact list.
  • Text Recognition –allows users to take a photo of the text and store it within the database.
  • Receipt Processing – Enables users to automate expense reports.
  • Key Phrase Extraction – Enables users to monitor text in the app or on social channels and build workflows when certain phrases are mentioned.
  • Language detection – Helps identify the language of texts.
  • Sentiment Analysis – Helps to identify and classify customer feedback.
  • Text Translation – Helps to translate support requests into the language of the user.

Custom Models:

In addition to pre-built models, AI Builder also offers custom models where users can train their AI to perform a variety of actions. The custom models are as follows:

  • Form Processing – Automate intake of PDF, Word, and other files, extracting appropriate information from them to process orders, invoices, applications, etc.
  • Object Detecting – Detect the contents of a photo and extract relevant information.
  • Prediction – Can be used to identify fraudulent transactions and other items.

There are also two models that include both custom and pre-built components. They are:

  • Category Classification – Helps categorize user feedback based on their focus.
  • Entity Extraction – Helps to extract insights from product reviews or other sources.

Pre-built models can be used out of the box with limited inputs or customization, making them perfect for a variety of different scenarios that are common across many different businesses. On the other hand, custom models need to be built, trained, and published before they can be used, making them best for processing data which is unique to your business.

Prediction Model in AI Builder:

One of the most interesting models in the AI Builder is the Prediction Model. Prediction Models analyze patterns in historical data and associate these patterns to certain outcomes. Then the power of AI is used to detect these same or similar patterns in new data allowing users to predict future outcomes.

It allows users to explore the answers to certain business questions such as:

  • Whether a transaction is likely to be fraudulent? – Yes/No
  • When is the next shipment arriving or how many days till the next shipment?
  • Which is the service that a customer is most interested in?

The answers to these questions can be binary, multiple choice or in numbers.

Consider the below scenario:

Nathan, a Sales Manager wants to know what the demand for a certain product will be next month. He uploads the purchase data of the product for the past 2 years into the AI Builder and uses the prediction model to predict future demand.

The AI Builder scans the data and remembers the systematic patterns present. He then trains the AI to ensure that he gets the most accurate prediction by inputting certain values and information such as what are the climate conditions predicted for the next month, any scheduled holidays, etc.

These factors can be changed at the discretion of the user. A different combination of factors will give a different prediction.

Once the AI is trained, he uploads the new data, the algorithm displays the demand for that product next month.

The Power of AI

As you can see, AI Builder is both useful and powerful.  Perhaps the best part? It is also inexpensive and very easy to use. The time when AI was available to only the top companies has long passed.
