Indian Landscape

At the onset of Covid-19 pandemic, going digital became the fastest and most efficient way to bring in the agile way of working to the Indian landscape. Agile solutions were widely brought in various industries in India. Although the IT Sector in India was one of the forerunners of adapting agile practices and methodologies, other industries also implemented not just on a team level but on an enterprise level. A KPMG study suggests that 91% of organizations now have a strategic priority to adopt Agile7. Another study conducted by McKinsey shows 48% of Indian companies have started or completed agile transformation against 52 per cent that haven't. Also, agile transformations have proven to be more successful in India as compared to other countries. 6

What is Agile?

Agile methodology in software development is the process of delivering incrementally, consisting of cross- functional teams who collaborate to evolve requirements and solutions.

Before the evolution of Agile, software development was based on the principles of waterfall methodologies which went through a lot of documentation before even coding could begin. Hence changes took a longer time to be done as it had to go through a lot of steps in the process. Agile bridges that gap and overcomes the risk of spending a lot of time in case of changes. It provides transparent results with a focused goal in a gradual/ incremental process.

Agile methodologies in general follow a disciplined process described in the infographic below:

How to get started?

While it may be challenging and scary to change or adapt to agile, it will help organizations enter and lead the transformation to business growth and adapt to changes quickly.

To begin, follow the below steps:

Which Industries should adopt Agile?

All. Apart from the IT Industry, many industries use the agile methodologies. In fact the term coined for the business world moving towards agility is ‘business agility’. Incorporating Kanban or Scrum on a team level is not enough anymore. Organizations are now starting to realize and understand that the whole enterprise should think and act the agile way, and not just teams.
