Hello everyone, I’m Neha and I head the Marketing function at Teleperformance in India. Of my 17 years working in the outsourcing industry, I have spent the last decade at Teleperformance. A mother to two beautiful kids, this journey of integrating life and career has been an exciting one

  1. Tell us about how you restarted your career

Post the birth of my son, who is 12 years old now, I took some time off work to settle into my new role as a mother. After his 2nd birthday, I decided to put the focus back on restarting a position in the corporate world and did the relevant research and networking on the type of profile I desired. Teleperformance was a perfect choice as they have always believed in the power of a gender-smart workforce and providing a sustainable career path for working mothers. 

 

  1. Did you face any bias when you got back to work and how did you #Breakthebias?

Today, the concept of women from all walks of life restarting their careers is both recognized and greatly supported by organizations across all industries, as organizations are aware of the fact that a highly dedicated and skilled female workforce is always an asset. The first step was to have an honest conversation with my manager on the expectations from both sides and find a win-win situation. As a new mom, while commitment to work was a priority, so was flexibility at the workplace to allow me to balance my family commitments.

Finding my footing with Teleperformance was a positive experience with my colleagues and my manager being greatly supportive of my choices and allowing enough flexibility and freedom to find my work-life balance.

 

  1. What were your reasons for going on a break?

I strongly believe that both the personal and professional facets of our life and the experiences and learnings we have along the way shape us into the people we become. In this regard, parenthood is both a huge joy and responsibility, and as a new mother, I had consciously decided that I would take the required time off and devote this time to my newborn.

 

  1. During your time away, how did you keep yourself updated with the latest skills and knowledge?

In today’s age of information at our fingertips, I was always keyed into the industry news and updates. This kept me connected to the work that I am passionate about and helped bridge the gap during my time off. One key aspect I trained myself on was digital and social media, which was taking shape a decade ago and tried to use as much of my time as possible to connect to this topic. During my early days with TP, I undertook an executive course with Harvard Business School to further hone my learning to build the role that I was in.

  1. What motivated you to restart your career?

As I mentioned earlier, I believe that both our personal and professional lives enrich us in their own unique ways, and I was always clear about the fact that I would get back to work when the time was right. Also, today’s work landscape is much more favorable and supportive of women restarting their careers after a break. And the biggest motivator of course, is my passion for the work I do in the area of Marketing & Communications that has always been my underlying purpose and drive as a professional.

 

  1. Do you credit anyone for support on your restart journey?

To begin with, it was a tough decision to uproot the family and relocate from Mumbai to Gurgaon for this role. The adage ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ holds true in my case as I extensively leaned on my extended family while I was settling in to my new job. My 2 cents to all women reading this, please accept all the help you can get to create a safe and happy environment for your child—as my son puts it, even Batman has a Robin!

 

  1. How has the restart helped you?

The years at Teleperformance have been an unforgettable journey of learning, growth and creating the most amazing success stories, and continue to be so! Taking a break from work helped me reevaluate my priorities and focus areas. From talking to other young moms to some of my mentors from previous organizations, I was able to better understand and get a perspective on how the ‘get back to work’ should be.

 

  1. Advice you want to give out to fellow restarters
  • Stay positive and have firm belief in your capabilities.
  • Keep networking.
  • Upgrade your skills.
  • Do not compare your journey with another’s.

Neha is currently the Head of Marketing for Teleperformance India. She is a Marketing & Communications expert with 18+ years of industry experience.

In her current role as the Executive Vice President, she heads the Marketing & Strategy function for Teleperformance India. She has been instrumental in setting-up the team in India and presenting the Teleperformance brand to drive engagements, digital and offline, with Employees, Prospects, Clients, Industry Associations, Analysts & Consultants, and the Government. She has championed some of the digital best practices globally, and also earned worldwide accreditation for the company across its People, Process and Community Spirit practices.

Before joining Teleperformance, Neha was associated with Datamatics, Evalueserve and Firstsource Solutions Limited.

Neha holds an executive degree from Harvard Business School and a post graduate degree in Business Management with specialization in Marketing & Communication from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, India.
