Organizations in the past decade, have been moving towards digitization. Post covid, the pace of digital adoption across industries has accelerated. Today organizations are digitalizing the processes of different business units which were earlier restricted to select capabilities (largely in GTM, supply chain, e-commerce, etc.).

Digital adoption requires horizontal collaboration between functions/units at all levels. Especially in matrix-structured global organizations, seamless collaboration between inter-functional units, distributed across geographies, is paramount for ensuring success in solution delivery to external/internal customers.

On the other hand, digitization at times leads to increased centralization at the unit/functional level. When regional teams report directly in their vertical, it results in an expansion of the span of control and remote management from the head office. This is where the India GCC leaders have a key role to play. GCC Leaders must attempt to get their management’s buy-in to ensure their respective GCCs are structurally integrated with their organization’s structure and are an integral part of the overall value system.

Tech at the Edge

Through the rapid advancement in technologies, GCCs are building their delivery capabilities and trust among the customers for managing their requirements. With India GCC leaders, investing time in understanding their customers’ businesses, industry dynamics, challenges, and ecosystem, they are enabling a better value system for GCCs.

Redefining Work and workplace

Technology advancements are also redefining work and workplaces. Businesses are flipping between outsourcing and in-sourcing the work, depending on their scale, profitability index, and continuously evolving priorities. Workplaces are becoming a cultural spaces for employees to collaborate & innovate. Hence, creating an employee-friendly workplace is critical for attracting and retaining the best talent. In addition to competitive financial benefits, it is imperative to create a work environment that is open, adaptable, ethical, and supports continuous employee development and learning.

Keeping flexibility as a core value, managers & leaders should be encouraged to plan team activities, meetings, celebrations, etc. on the day's team members plan to work from office. Being together in the office brings the benefits of personal interactions, sparks watercooler/pantry conversations, and brainstorming discussions that are key to an organization’s success. In addition, an open collaborative workspace design could enhance the employees’ experience.

In Conclusion

GCCs have proven to be critical drivers of innovation and technological advancements for their organizations & customers. With the growth in customers’ digitization journey, GCCs significance will only increase and will enable the overall organization to succeed in the hyper-connected world of tomorrow.
