As we discussed about Web 3.0 and current applications and examples which are being developed in our earlier blogs, we would now take a short dive in the main driver to run the internet revolution forward – Talent.  Talent pool in India has been one of the best in various industries catering across the functions. The Web 3.0 movement in India is still in its nascent stage as there are still discussions around its scalability and sustainability of blockchain platforms. However, this does not mean that current technical folks and talent does not need to upgrade themselves and learn the new areas to better prepare for the internet journey.

As per data by LinkedIn, crypto job postings on the platform were up by 395 percent from the last year. Further, according to a report published last year September by crypto exchange WazirX and industry body NASSCOM, the cryptotech industry already employs 50,000 individuals in India and has registered a growth of 39% in the past five years. As of February, there were 12,000 blockchain-related job openings in India, accounting for 4.5% of the total active job openings in the country.

Today most of the IT developers and technology startups in India are working on the growth of Web 3.0 platforms and applications and therefore Web 2.0 professionals including freshers are willing to upskill themselves as this will give them opportunity to be a part of long-term future growth.

To fill in the gap, several technology organizations and universities have come forward to provide the learning platform to the students and professionals who are looking to upskill to web3.0 technologies. One such example is ethereum scaling solution, Polygon’s developer fellowship program which aims to provide education, funding, mentorship, and support to beginner and intermediate developers interested in building Web3 technology. The global fellowship program targets the country’s 5.8 million strong developer community not only imparting skills and knowledge needed to build decentralized applications (dApps), but also providing them with initial capital of $1,500 and $3,000 to put towards their projects.

Further, various state level initiatives as well are being conducted to upskill the professionals and students and help them to keep the pace with technology revolution. Kerela established the Kerala Blockchain Academy (KBA) to explore the capacity of the technology to promote Research, Development and Entrepreneurship. In the next five years, the state plans to make its financial system more efficient and implement pilot government schemes by creating a talent pool of professionals in blockchain arena.

One excellent example of collaboration and talent development is Tech Mahindra and Telangana government. Besides having developed a Blockchain District near Hyderabad, the Telangana government has signed a MoU with Tech Mahindra and is collaborating with IIIT Hyderabad and C-DAC to build a state-level Blockchain platform.

Although there are significant initiatives being conducted to develop the talent pool, however there is still need of penetration and inclusion of skills and learning of Web 3.0 driving technologies. Currently, there are less programs and courses in college and educational institutions that might help students in building their foundation and develop a career path in the same. Further, there could be potential programs to engage the upskilled and experienced professionals and retain in the country, so they serve a converged role of mentorship and innovation contributor.
