Challenges in the DE&I Ecosystem in India

In my last blog, I had highlighted the what are the key objectives of DE&I across organisations and who is driving the DE&I agenda at India Inc. Taking the same discussion forward I would noe like to talk about the challenges that still remain despite all the efforts being made in the DE&I space.

According to nasscom report - The DE&I Landscape in India Inc., “while businesses are taking responsibility, in less than 50% of companies DE&I metrics are part of executive scorecards. Publicly sharing DE&I numbers is still more an exception than the rule. The absence of linkage between executive incentives and DE&I targets raises the question if India Inc’s DE&I commitment is performative without being structural”.

Some numbers that support this claim includes the high share of organisations which track DE&I however they don’t report the same.

Notably, as per the survey findings of the report, organizations report that report the highest representation across diverse groups have executive scorecards and incentives linked to DE&I outcomes. This highlights that linking financial incentives could give the much-needed push to the DE&I agenda.

In a nutshell to make DE&I initiatives a success we need to track it, report it and make the leadership accountable.
