We keep saying ‘Change is the way of life’, but in recent times, change has been radical in everyone’s professional and personal life due to the ongoing pandemic.

More than a year ago, we started working from home because of the circumstances and took to digital collaboration as the means of communication. Ever since, there have been no ‘In person’ project- meetings, workshops, and reviews.

In the past, we have worked on different delivery models namely:

  1. Onsite
  2. Onsite – Offshore
  3. Nearshore – Offshore

We always believed that we need some onsite presence to make projects successful. This was more from the perspective of personal interaction, connect and rapport with customers as well as end-users. We could not imagine that someday we would execute ERP projects completely in a remote (offshore) manner.

It is said, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. Working as per a complete offshore model was not an invention, but we all surely re-discovered it due to the pandemic circumstances. Of course, digitization and new online meeting tools have helped our industry enormously.

For any approach that we adopt, there are always pros and cons to consider. Let us look at the cons first.

  1. Service provider and customer need to preferably be in similar time zones
  2. Audio or video call mannerism is completely different than in ‘In-person’ meetings
  3. Video call is required for personal interaction and building personal rapport

Now let us look at the pros from a delivery perspective.

  1. First and foremost, we are in our own location, with family all the time irrespective of our delivery schedule
  2. We can deliver projects much faster, and our team is able to work seamlessly with a complete focus only on work
  3. If we need help in any different technology or skill set, it is just a call away (No hassles of visa, onsite travel, cost considerations, etc.)
  4. We can use our workforce more efficiently and effectively
  5. Our operation cost has come down and we are able to pass this benefit to the customer
  6. Customer TCO (Total cost of ownership) has come down, which saves the budget for spending on other IT projects & activities and thus generates more opportunities and revenue for the service provider.

Overall, we as an industry have been immensely benefited due to the complete offshore delivery model in current circumstances. We just need to take due advantage of the current acceptance of offshore delivery and reap the benefits.
