An insightful twitter chat on “Search Engine Marketing” by Mr. Fernando Angulo- Head of communication, SEMrush with Mr. Naman Kishore Parcha- lead, community NASSCOM insights being the moderator. Organized by Dr. Amit Nagpal and Mr. Narvijay Yadav on 14th June 2020 at 6 pm.

Mr. Fernando was welcomed by Blog India Blog and talk commenced with the first question by Mr. Naman-“ The difference Between SEO and SEM?

Mr. Fernando started by explaining how “SEO is part of SEM or search marketing as it is widely known. SEM is used only to refer to Paid Advertising campaigns, but the use of SEM is widely known for both, SEO and PPC, SEO is all optimizing your website to get higher rankings in the organic search result while SEM goes beyond SEO”.

Moving forward with the talk and making it more apt for the COVID times Mr. Naman’s Next question was-: “How has COVID-19 impacted search marketing?”

Mr. Fernando very well explained-“COVID-19 has affected all the industries in search marketing. Some of the industries like remote work software will continue to grow because now many more companies and people know of their existence. So what could have taken them years now took only a few months”. He added “offline events are facing a lot of problems and industries such as hospitality and tourism will have a road to recovery ahead.”

With talk becoming more interesting and knowledge-driven Ms. Kriti Makhija- advisor at NASSCOM and CEO at genesis BCW asked about Mr. Fernando’s views on “ Ecommerce being a sudden reality for the business which may not have had online selling before COVID-19 and while SEO and SEM is an old discipline, dramatic difference in consumer behaviour will require a new approach to SEO going forward”.

Mr. Fernando expressed views on the same by saying “ I believe user behaviour will not change dramatically, they are still focusing on to have whatever they want, whenever they want as faster as possible. The problem is for those websites that are entering an already mature market, high competition level, and high expectations.”

Coming to the end of the chat the Last question put by Mr. Naman was- “What tool does SEMrush offer to bloggers?

Mr. Fernando mentioned the top 3 tools to be:-

  1. Have more ideas on how your users will find you
  2. Topic research: write the content that your users are searching for
  3. SEO- writing assistant: write content like a pro with SEO metrics in google docs, WordPress, or in SEMrush.

10 Main learning that one could take away from this twitter chat was compiled by Blog India Blog:-

  2. SEM goes beyond SEO
  3. SEM is known for both- SEO and PPC
